Welcome to my gallery of beautiful dichroic
cabochons wrapped with 14/20 gold-filled
(GF) wire, Argentium Silver or Sterling
Silver (SS) wire.  The wire design and the
dichroic glass are different for each
pendant thus creating unique pieces of
jewelry.   Most of the pendants have a
large bail that can accommodate a thick
chain or they can be used as enhancers on
Omega necklaces.  I also make dichroic
glass dangle earrings using exclusively
beads made by the very talented glass
artist Gail Lacy from Vermont, and post and
clip earrings.
Dichroic glass is a high-tech spin-off of the
space industry.
"
Dichroic" is defined as the property of
having more than one color, especially
when viewed from different angles.  To get
this effect, thin layers of metallic oxides,
such as titanium, silicon, and magnesium
are deposited upon the surface of the glass
in a high temperature, vacuum furnace.
Gold-filled wire is produced by bonding a
layer of gold to brass with heat and
pressure.  It is a superior product to gold
plate.  It contains much more gold and will
not flake and peel off when bent, hammered
and heated.  14/20
karat means that 1/20th of the metal is 14
karat gold (a layer on the outside.)
I am particularly attracted to working with
gold-filled wire because I can achieve the
look of gold at a fraction of the cost of gold.

Argentium Silver is made with a touch of
germanium that inhibits tarnish.
